Shoji Screen Radio
I did this project as a way of creating new paradigms of interaction for a simple radio. I purposely designed this radio using the Golden Ratio, as well as Japanese Aesthetics. The primary controls within the radio include on/off, tuning, and volume.
Prior to concept development, I studied the semantics and aesthetics found within Japanese interiors and furniture. I created a list of design elements to consider, and incorporate within my final radio.
Concept development involved not only sketching ideas, but jumping straight into prototyping. I had to consider the mechanics needed within the radio in order to control the inputs.
The final concept is a radio in which on/off, volume, and tuning are controlled via two side panels.
